The turbo timer is set up to function only when the ebrake is engaged. He may also have a setting where the timer estimates the amount of time that the car should run to cool down the turbos. Manytimes the rural drive home will cool it enough so that it won't run, and it doesn't seem like u were driving in high enough rpms to need it anyway.
